Feb. 11: Colloquium opens spring series with panel discussion
FREDERICK, Md.—A panel of students will discuss the many components that constitute a sense of place and home Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m.at Hood College.
The event, which takes place in the College’s Coblentz Seminar Room and includes lunch, opens the College’s annual Center for the Humanities spring colloquium series, which is funded in part by a National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant.
International graduate and undergraduate students, as well as students who have returned from studying abroad and alternative spring break experiences will reflect on what the concept of home means to them. Sandra Ortiz, a student in Hood’s master of arts in humanities program, will moderate the discussion.
The event is co-sponsored by the Hood’s office of multicultural affairs and international student programs.
Future spring colloquium events will also focus on the complex notion of home, including a gallery talk Feb. 19 held in conjunction with an exhibit entitled Photographs of Home; a talk March 3 by author and social justice advocate Eli Clare; and a lecture in Spanish by Catalan author Maria Barbal, April 6.
